This week's individual work included the formulating of Vision and Mission Statements and the creation of a Portfolio Project Proposal.
I looked back through the portfolio examples that I had listed in last week's thread. Some of these had very nicely written and accessible Vision and Mission Statements, while others had a conglomeration of these two thoughts into a Teaching Philosophy. I was able to come up with a draft of these two ideas which I have posted on the discussion board. I have already received some great constructive criticism that has led me to amend my initial attempt. Thanks for the comments.
The Project Proposal was a bit worrisome for me as I didn't have a good idea of what to go with or a really good understanding of the final result of this activity (implementation and gathering of results?!?!). I settled on an idea that I believe would use the idea of portfolio production into the USCG's Performance Evaluation System for its members (used for promotion, assignment, etc.).
I think it is very helpful to look at other portfolios to guide me in the direction I need to go. Sometimes I wonder what we would do if we had to "pave the way" and be the first to do these things? I, too, used some of the portfolios I looked at to assist in my writing of my vision and mission.
ReplyDeleteWill, I too looked at other portfolios. It is nice to see what others have done, but also at the same time can be confusing as to the different aspect of each on. How do you plan on implementing the proposal? Is it something that you will jump right into or just gradually introduce different parts? You seem to be on the right track with your ideas.
