I am hoping that this course will make me a more effective/efficient user of many of the installed and internet-based versions of common programs (Word processing, spreadsheets, presentation creators, etc.). I consider myself fairly adept at using some of the less commonly used features of Excel and Word (integrated spreadsheet creation, working on/creating document templates with dropdown boxes and the like). I look forward to seeing where this course is taking us.
As usual at the beginning of these courses, I do wonder what impact this information will have on my current non-teaching job. I believe that it will be easier to implement the things that I am learning to my home computing vice my workplace usage. We shall see!
From the reading assignment thus far I've been learning about what technology should mean in the classroom setting. Also, I liked the discussion on the fact that there is no one perfect way to teach all students.
Hi Will. I agree with the book, there is no perfect way to teach. I would even go so far as to say that the not all tools are perfect for all students. I think it is the responsibility of the teacher to select and determine which tools are best suited for each student - differentiate instruction. I like learning about different technology to incorporate into my teaching, which is why I choose this graduate program. Do you think you will be able to incorporate the presentation programs into your job?
ReplyDeleteWill, I definitely agree with what is said about there being no perfect way to teach. I also believe that sometimes technology can hinder a lesson rather than enhance it. As will all situations, each one is different and each person has to teach them differently. Have you had any luck incorporating anything we've learned so far into your daily job?
ReplyDeleteWill, I like how the book takes a situation in a classroom and then talks about how the teacher used the technology. I think some teachers are scared to use technology because of the problems that can arise. I also concider myself fairly good at using different aspects of technology, but I still run into problems while I'm trying to use it.
