Another post aimed at ensuring that I am meeting the requirements on this blog thing!
Had to answer the couple of questions in the Discussions section of our Session One site. I hope that the responses are adequate. It is difficult to write about the usefulness of online tools at this time due to the fact that most of them are not available to me in my current line of work. However, it's fairly easy to imagine how I could, would and should put these things to use if I were teaching High School Physics right now. I perused some of the other answers to the questions and found some similar thoughts... so I know I'm not far off base if the Professional's responses appear to be in line with mine!
Is there a proxy server limiting your use of the online tools? If so, you might be able to go to a McDonalds or another restaurant/coffee shop and use the free WiFi if you want to try things out. But that assumes you are able to go to a McDonalds or some other establishment that offers free WiFi. I am also not sure of the limitations that these establishments have put on their internet access.
ReplyDeleteThere's USCG rules on workstation usage! We are only allowed to visit those sites that the CG feels are appropriate for viewing at work for the sole purpose of conducting work. Anything that, even faintly, smells of social networking is pretty much off limits. So things like online shopping, blogs, google docs, etc. are all disallowed by the techies that run the system!

Is the concern that in social networking usage you are not completing the required tasks for work? What if your network of friends all helped you solve issues.
